In the first eight months of this year, 131,089 new cars were sold in the Northern capital, which is 5% less than in the same period last year.
According to the agency Auto-Dealer-SPb, from January to August last year, more than 7,303 cars were sold in St. Petersburg than in the first eight months of 2013. In August, 16 929 cars were sold in the city, 9% or 1,576 cars less than in the same month last year.
Thus, the decline in car sales in the city continues for six months. Experts believe that the August figure was affected by the high base of August last year, when demand was influenced by the introduction of a recycling fee, which, according to consumers, could increase German cars prices.
Leaders in the St. Petersburg market remain Renault, Volkswagen and Kia, while in August, as in April, the German brand showed the best result. According to the results of eight months, the city's share in the Russian market remains unchanged - 7.3%.
