The low consumer demand used by the Volkswagen Routan family car forced the German concern to abandon the model.

The low consumer demand used by the Volkswagen Routan family car forced the German concern to abandon the model.
Volkswagen first announced plans to discontinue Routan production in December last year, when the company temporarily suspended assembly of the car at its plant in the Canadian city of Windsor. After several months of thinking, the Volkswagen leadership, according to The Detroit Bureau, decided to finally curtail the release of the "twin" Chrysler Town & Country and send it to the "landfill of history."
The verdict handed down by Volkswagen Routan is not a surprise since minivan sales were low in many countries. For five years, the automaker has sold 57,683 copies of the Routan in the US market, although it initially hoped to bring annual sales to 45,000 muscle cars.
It is expected that the seven-seat CrossBlue crossover, which premiered in January this year at the international motor show in Detroit, will take Routan in the Volkswagen product line. A new car designed on the MQB modular platform will appear at dealerships approximately within two years. The main markets for new items will be Russia, the USA and China.
