Until the end of the life cycle of the generation of the model Volkswagen Up! there are still four years left, but the largest automaker in Germany is already preparing a project to create a new sitikar, which will be a bit more compact than its predecessor.
Volkswagen Up! the second generation will get an automatic transmission and turbo power plants. Currently, the car is made exclusively with atmospheric engines and an electric motor, which work in tandem with a manual transmission and a single-clutch robotic transmission. According to the head of the Volkswagen division for the development of transmissions, Michael Schafer, it is impossible to equip the body structure of the Citicara with the current modification of the model with a traditional “automatic” or a box with two clutches.
“The Volkswagen Up! Has a too compact engine compartment, which is a problem for engineers. The modest engine compartment prevents us from equipping the car with an automatic transmission and it was for this reason that we had to install a single-clutch robot,” says Car Advice Michael Schafer.
The representative of the brand does not exclude that Volkswagen will sign an agreement on the supply of an automatic transmission with a third-party company of the tuning cars, for example, Getrag, Aisin or Jatco. Such a move will allow the concern to save time and money needed to develop a DSG transmission.
Volkswagen Up! generation "next" will debut approximately in 2017.
