Executive Vice President of Nissan Andy Palmer commented on rumors related to the development of a new flagship car by the Japanese company Infiniti.
According to the representative of the Nissan concern, the copyright holder of the Infiniti brand, the project to create a new luxury car is under discussion. Andy Palmer stressed that the future flagship Infiniti will not be like any of the modern models of the executive class.
"We do not want to build a car a la Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In the history of Infiniti there were already similar models. We want to create a flagship car that will occupy a special place in the market," quoted Palmer Automotive News.
According to recent reports, the new four-door coupe Infiniti will be built on the rear-wheel drive platform of Mercedes-Benz. The range of engines will be gasoline power plants and, possibly, a hybrid unit. As for the design of the model, the exterior of the model will be made in the same style with the Essence concept car, which premiered four years ago in Geneva.
Audi cars enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the new multi-door Infiniti coupe no earlier than 2017.
