Today, one of the leaders in the field of creating models for electric traction is the French concern Renault, while the brand is still not represented in the segment of hybrid vehicles. Renault is going to fill this gap in the near future.
The head of Renault's power plant development department, Mark Bodin, in an interview with Les Echos reporters, noted that the company's engineers are currently developing several hybrid power plants, including a unit whose batteries can be recharged from the mains.
“We are exploring the possibility of hybrid cars appearing in the model range by 2020,” said Mark Bodin.
Thanks to hybrid cars, Renault intends not only to increase sales of products, but also to fit into the stringent environmental standards that will come into effect in 2020. After seven years, the average level of CO2 emissions for the company's cars will not exceed 80 g / km. According to unofficial information, the first hybrid car of the brand will enter the market next year. We are talking about the successor to the Espace minivan, the prototype of which - Initiale Paris - was presented to the public at the last international motor show in Frankfurt. It is expected that the new generation of Renault Espace will be equipped with a power plant consisting of a small diesel engine and a low-power electric motor of the Swedish cars.
The publication Automotive News, citing its own sources, reports that access to hybrid technology Renault will get the "poor relative" of the French - the Romanian brand Dacia.
