Against the background of successful sales in the European market for the Mazda CX-5 crossover, the automaker from Japan has decided to build another compact SUV.
Rumors about the creation of the "younger brother" Mazda CX-5 first appeared at the end of last year. According to initial reports, the car was planned to be built on the platform of the next generation of the Citicara Mazda2, however, according to the Drive publication, the donor for the new product is more likely to be a new “treshka”. The choice in favor of the Mazda3 platform is due to the fact that this "trolley" is suitable for the construction of both front-wheel drive models and cars with all-wheel drive.
"We would like to see a compact all-wheel drive crossover on the Australian market, so we turned to the company's management with a request to develop such a car and received a promise that the issue of creating a new model would be considered," says Drive the words of Mazda Australia managing director Martin Benders.
It is expected that the exterior of the rival Subaru XV will be developed in accordance with the design philosophy of the brand "KODO - the soul of the movement", which is used in the design of the new generation of the retro cars Mazda3 and Mazda6. The car is supposed to be equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel engine Skyactiv and gasoline engines up to 2.0 liters.
The Mazda CX-3 crossover will hit the market no earlier than 2015.
