The company is discussing the launch of the Peugeot 308 R hot hatch, which debuted as a concept at the Frankfurt international motor show.
The French brand decided to consider the idea of building a serial modification of the competitor Volkswagen Golf R, after it received a lot of flattering reviews from specialists and guests of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Pierre Budard, manager of the Peugeot Sport sports division, estimates the likelihood of a positive verdict on the creation of a “hot” version of the 308 R as very high.
"The project to create the Peugeot 308 R has not been officially approved, but I can say that the discussion of this issue is in full swing," the company representative said.
As Autoexpress recalls, it took the Volkswagen company less than a year and a half to transform the Peugeot RCZ R concept into a commercial vehicle, despite the fact that the engineers had to thoroughly upgrade the 1.6-liter power plant of the stock car and reconfigure the chassis. It is assumed that the automaker will need no more than a year to develop the production version of the Peugeot 308 R, which will get the motor from the RCZ R.
The gasoline engine of the two-door coupe RCZ R develops 270 hp.
It is assumed that the basic equipment of the hot hatch will include a Torsen limited slip differential, 19-inch alloy wheels with racing tires and powerful Alcon brakes.
